Batumi: forced migrants complain about housing problems

In Batumi, in the dwelling settlement "Dream City", they began building three houses for forced migrants, regional authorities have announced. However, residents are not sure that the houses will be completed amid the ongoing political crisis in Georgia, while the available housing facilities are completely unfit for living, forced migrants have complained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 15, forced migrants went to a protest rally in Batumi, demanding to put the housing waiting line into order.

The forced migrants are on the social programme designed by Adjara authorities, an employee of the press service of the Ministry of Public Health has stated.

Marina Beridze, an activist, said that she moved to Batumi after a landslide in the Keda Municipality in 2013. "I am a mother of many children; I live with my children and an elderly mother. I have to feed my family and at the same time deal with social issues to help my neighbours," she has explained.

"We have huge problems with electricity and gas supplies. Our temporary house is poorly heated; children are forced to wear warm clothes all the time," Naira, a resident of the "Dream City", has complained.

"This is not even a housing facility; it's a temporary structure, in fact – a squatter," Shushana, another resident of the "Dream City", has added.
