Aslanov and Sadygov continue their hunger strike

The Azerbaijani journalists, Polad Aslanov and Afghan Sadygov, continue their hunger strike, their wives have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 16, 2020, the court sentenced Polad Aslanov, the editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijani Internet editions "Xeberman.com" and "Press-az.com", to 16 years in prison in the case of treason. On February 1, the journalist went on a hunger strike, demanding a fair trial and transfer to house arrest.

Gyulmira Aslanova, Polad's wife, appealed to the Azerbaijani Ombudsperson with a request to provide her husband with the opportunity to contact his family by phone every day in connection with his hunger strike.

Elchin Sadygov, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that there are two ways out of the situation: the earliest possible consideration of the cassation appeal and Aslanov's release by the Supreme Court, or the pardoning him by Azerbaijani President.

In a similar way, as he said, the situation with another journalist, Afghan Sadygov, who is also on a long hunger strike, can be resolved. The lawyer is convinced of the innocence of his both clients and the prosecution of them for their journalistic work.

On November 3, Afghan Sadygov was sentenced to seven years in prison. The next day he went on a hunger strike, and on November 23, he even refused to drink water.

Sevindj Sadygova, Afghan's wife, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that as of March 1, her husband continued his hunger strike.
