Ingush protest leaders stop their hunger strike

Five Ingush activists, who declared a hunger strike in protest against the detention of Zarifa Sautieva, stopped their protest action at the request of the Muftiate and the Ingush Council of Teips. Advocate Boris Kodzoev wrote about the above on his Facebook page.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the leaders of the Ingush protest, accused in a case on the rally in Magas, went on a hunger strike and refused to participate in the trial in protest against the court's decision of March 16. The court ruled to return to custody activist Zarifa Sautieva, who had been released from a SIZO (pre-trial prison) a week earlier.

The case against Zarifa Sautieva and six other leaders of the protest in Ingushetia, accused of creating an extremist community, is being considered by the court starting from November 24, 2020. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial”* has recognized all seven defendants as political prisoners.

Earlier, the human rights defenders have noted that residents of Ingushetia do not hold public actions in support of the arrested protestors for fear of provoking new arrests in connection with the case on Magas rally.

* the HRC "Memorial" is recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent.
