Refugees in Nagorno-Karabakh complain about difficulties in obtaining housing

The authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh are providing temporary housing to refugees from the territories that have passed over to Azerbaijan on time; however, they are protracting the provision of permanent housing, refugees have complained.

Before the war, the family of Roza, a refugee, lived in the Kashatag Dictrict, where she was mainly engaged in gardening. During the district transfer to Azerbaijan, according to the trilateral armistice agreement, Roza's family moved to the Badara village of the Askeran District (occupies parts of the territory of the Khodjaly and part of the Agdam Districts of Azerbaijan, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). Here Roza's family was provided with temporary housing. The woman said that she is happy with all the conditions, but the only thing she would still like to get is a small plot of land.

"For more than 25 years, my family has been engaged in agriculture and gardening. It was the source of incomes for the whole family. Now we have lost everything and live on social benefits provided by the government. We receive all of them, but I believe that people need to work, to do something; they shouldn't stay idling. The other day I visited the head of the community; he promised to talk to local residents; maybe someone would agree to give us a part of one's land," Roza told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Svetlana Khachatryan, a mother of three children, lives in one of Stepanakert hotels. It has created all the living conditions for refugees; however, the family wants to have its own apartment; moreover that authorities promised to provide it. The Khachatryan family receives all the financial payments envisaged under the state support programme, the refugee told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
