In Dagestan, City Mayor explains dismantling of Stalin bust

In the town of Dagestanskie Ogni, a bust of Joseph Stalin has been dismantled, because local Communists installed it without a sanction from the authorities, the Mayor reports. The Stalin bust will be returned to the pedestal when the documents for its installation are completed, the leader of the CPRF (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) faction in the Dagestani parliament promises.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 29, a bust of Stalin was erected in the town of Dagestanskie Ogni. On May 2, it became known that the bust with the plaque was dismantled.

Earlier, Internet users have claimed that the Communists who installed the bust of Stalin showed disrespect for the repressed peoples of the Caucasus. In turn, their opponents recalled the Stalin’s role during World War II.

The Stalin bust erected by the local Communists in the town of Dagestanskie Ogni has been dismantled because of the absence of a permission from the authorities to its installation, reports Djalalutdin Alirzaev, Mayor of Dagestanskie Ogni.

According to the official, the monument was erected without the authorities’ permission. The Mayor of Dagestanskie Ogni noted that initiators of the installation of the Stalin bust should first have consulted with local residents.

Makhmud Makhmudov, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Assembly of Dagestan, has added that the Stalin bust will be returned to its place after the registration of the documents necessary for its installation.
