Alleged militant killed in the Astrakhan Region

During a special operation conducted in the village of the Astrakhan Region, a supporter of the "Islamic State" (IS)* was killed; and his accomplice was detained in Moscow, the Russian FSB has reported. Both of them had been preparing terror acts in public places, law enforcers have reported.

According to the FSB, the IS* supporter was shot dead at a detention attempt.

On July 1, the FSB reported on its website that the alleged militant put up armed resistance to law enforcers. The other alleged militant was detained in Moscow.

According to law enforcers, both militants were supporters of the IS*, a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court. They are suspected of acting at the direction of the organization leaders, and planned a simultaneous attack on residents of Moscow and the Astrakhan Region in crowded places.

During the inspection of the venue and searches at the residences of the alleged militants, submachine guns, ammunition, a grenade and religious extremist literature were found.
