Residents of Chechnya denied entry to mosques without vaccination certificates

Policemen checked the presence of vaccination certificates on those wishing to attend the Friday prayers; believers were allowed to enter mosques only with certificates, local residents have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 16, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, threatened to impose severe restrictions related to coronavirus. Authorities will have to take these measures in view of low vaccination rates in the republic, Mr Kadyrov has stated. Since July 9, unvaccinated residents of the republic are not allowed to visit mosques. In Chechnya, people without certificates of vaccination against coronavirus are not served at stores, local residents have complained.

On July 9, believers without vaccination certificates were not allowed to participate in collective prayers. According to local residents, the presence of certificates was checked by policemen at entrances to the mosques.

"Today, as usual, I went to our mosque to perform the obligatory ruzba-namaz (Friday prayer). Just in case, I took a mask, but I was not allowed to pray with it either. Policemen were on duty at the entrance and demanded to show a certificate that you have been vaccinated," a parishioner told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
