Pandemic increases popularity of Eid al-Adha sacrifices through funds

The Dagestan "Nadezhda" (Hope) Fund has organized, at people's requests from Makhachkala, Kaspiysk and other cities, conducting sacrifices on Eid al-Adha, followed by freezing and gradual distribution of meat to those in need. The option to order a sacrifice remotely has turned out to be very much in demand during the pandemic, the staff of the Fund has explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Makhachkala residents decided to refrain from attending mass sacrifices on Eid al-Adha.

During the celebrations, the above "Nadezhda" Fund has allocated 140 sheep and 126 bull-calves for sacrifices, the total amount of meat is 20 tons, Murad Kerimov, the head of the Fund, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The number of believers wishing to conduct the sacrifice ceremony on Eid al-Adha through a charitable fund is growing. This year, online applications have increased by 20 percent, and they are now 60 percent of the total. Mr Kerimov believes that more applications are now coming online because of the pandemic and simplified electronic registration procedure.
