Rights defenders treat support of Tepsurkaev as way to intensify inquiry

The public support for Salman Tepsurkaev, a resident of Chechnya, is capable of forcing investigators to take real steps to clarify his fate, human rights defenders said after the appeal of the Amnesty International (AI) to people to send appeals to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 18, the AI, an international human rights organization, called on residents of Russia to join the demand to search for Salman Tepsurkaev.

The AI's campaign will help draw attention to Salman's disappearance, Magomed Alamov, the head of the North-Caucasian branch of the Committee against Torture (CaT), is sure.

"With regard to this action, I can say that they are necessary and very important. Thus, the problem of kidnappings and unclear disappearances of people in Chechnya attracts the attention of a wide range of people, and the case is given a great public resonance, which can really help in some way in establishing the whereabouts, in this case of Salman Tepsurkaev," Mr Alamov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He believes that silence is for the benefit of Chechen authorities. "It is important not to leave the raised problem unattended for a long time," Magomed Alamov is sure.
