President Putin names Grozny airport after Akhmat Kadyrov

On the 70th anniversary of the birth of the first President of Chechnya, Vladimir Putin named the Grozny International Airport was after Akhmat Kadyrov.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in Chechnya, the opening of a school, the beginning of the construction of a power plant, a bicycle and auto rally and other actions are timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Akhmat Kadyrov’s birth.

In August 2020, when the 69th anniversary of the birth of Akhmat Kadyrov was celebrated, a mosque and madrasah named after him were opened in the village of Djalka in the Gudermes District.

An avenue in Grozny, a street in Moscow, the main sports complex of the capital of Chechnya, and the mosque in Grozny (according to the republic’s authorities, one of the largest mosques in Europe) are named after Akhmat Kadyrov.

Many years of the leadership of Chechnya let Ramzan Kadyrov build a total family cult. However, in Northern Caucasus, there was no tradition of perpetuating the rulers in the names of various facilities. “The Chechens did not have kings, and no one extolled any ruler for being a ruler. Heroes were those who could die for their idea,” noted Akhmed Gisaev, the head of the Human Rights Analysis Centre.
