Sergey Lavrov calls criticism of Stalin’s personality a threat to Russia

At a meeting with war veterans in Volgograd, Sergey Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that attempts to portray Joseph Stalin as the main villain of his era are aimed at weakening Russia politically.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the personality of Joseph Stalin still causes heated debates in the Caucasus. Among residents of Northern Caucasus, Stalin is revered by those who mistakenly associate with him the concept of “social justice,” which they have despaired of getting from the modern authorities, note historians interviewed by the “Caucasian Knot” in May.

Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in Volgograd on the occasion of the solemn handover of eleven banners of military units and subunits that participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. The ceremony has taken place in the Hall of Military Glory on the Mamayev Kurgan, the “Vysota 102” (Height 102) reports.

At his meeting with veterans of the Great Patriotic War in Volgograd, the Russian Foreign Minister has claimed that the criticism of Stalin is part of an attack on the results of World War II and, in general, on the historical past of Russia. According to Sergey Lavrov, those attempts to “rewrite history” are aimed at weakening Russia politically.
