Georgian Prime Minister reports about Saakashvili’s plans to kill oppositionists

Mikhail Saakashvili and his associates planned to organize riots in Tbilisi on October 3, during which several oppositionists would be killed, and then demand the resignation of the government, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili claimed.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 1, former President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili was detained after he had returned to Georgia. He was placed in the Rustavi prison, where he went on a hunger strike. Political analysts note that the crossing of the Georgian border by Mikhail Saakashvili speaks of the ineffective protection of the country’s borders.

On October 2, the police detained an owner of the apartment in Tbilisi where Mikhail Saakashvili was hiding after his return to Georgia. The man is suspected of concealing a crime. The defence found the accusation illogical.

After Mikhail Saakashvili’s supporters gathered in Tbilisi, the former president of Georgia planned to suddenly appear at a rally and cause an explosion of emotions among its participants, Irakli Garibashvili said. “Their plan was as follows: during the culmination and mobilization of about 10,000 people ... the police would have to detain Mikhail Saakashvili and, possibly, use special equipment. And at that time, one of the versions of the possible events would include assassination of several opposition leaders,” the RIA “Novosti” quotes Irakli Garibashvili as saying.

The scenario with the assassination of oppositionists was prevented by the arrest of Mikhail Saakashvili. If the above plan were implemented, the supporters of the former president would demand the resignation of the government and early elections, Irakli Garibashvili added.
