The suspect-figurant of the extortion case committed suicide in one of Volgograd SIZOs (pre-trial prisons). Igor Nagavkin, a rights defender, who was contacted by the victim's relatives, did not rule out that he had been beaten up.

According to Mr Nagavkin, who is also the head of the Volgograd regional NGO for social and legal protection of convicts and prisoners in custody, Rasulov, 22, died last night. "[Rasulov's] mother is writing an application demanding to bring those responsible for the death of her son to justice," the rights defender told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Igor Nagavkin did not rule out that Rasulov was beaten after detention. "We'll submit a petition to the investigator asking to allow one of the relatives to be present at the autopsy in order to record bodily injuries," Mr Nagavkin has noted.
