At action in Tbilisi, oppositionists demand to release activists

In Tbilisi, the opposition held a protest action, where the participants spoke out against the detention of Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili's supporters. At the rally, two persons received traumas from the stones thrown at them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Georgian opposition announced daily protests demanding the release of the former president. On November 10, about 50 oppositionists who took part in three protest actions in support of Saakashvili were detained for administrative violations.

On September 30, Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, a former Georgian president returned to his homeland and was soon arrested. On October 1, he went on a hunger strike in the Rustavi Prison. In November, the authorities admitted that Saakashvili's health had deteriorated and transferred him to the prison hospital in Tbilisi, despite the fact that the politician himself and his supporters insisted on his hospitalization to a civilian clinic.

On November 11, in Tbilisi, in front of the building of the Georgian State Security Service (SSS), oppositionists held a rally against the detention of Saakashvili's supporters, detained the day before.

"They were detained with gross violations of the law. We must peacefully and calmly demonstrate to the government that the people would not tolerate the oligarch's rule," Nika Meliya, the leader of the oppositional "United National Movement" (UNM) Party, stated at the beginning of the action.

Apart from UNM members, the action was also attended by members of the "Agmashenebeli Strategy", "Lelo" and "European Georgia" Parties.

There were no detentions during the rally, but during the speech of Nika Meliya, the UNM leader, stones were thrown in his direction. Two persons suffered; an ambulance was called, and doctors provided first aid to those injured.
