Solidarity petition with "Memorials"* collects over 80,000 signatures
The electronic petition demanding to prevent the closure of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial* and the "International Memorial"* was signed by 80,794 people.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 12, after the lawsuits demanding to liquidate the HRC "Memorial"* and the "International Memorial"*, an electronic petition was placed on the "Change.org" website in support of both organizations.
By November 21, the petition "Hands off the 'Memorial' – let's stop liquidation of key public organizations by the court!" had gathered 80,794 signatures.
Many signatories explained in their comments their solidarity with the human rights organizations by the importance of their work.
"You can't liquidate memory and conscience!" Nikita Kuznetsov wrote, in particular. "It was from the 'Memorial'* that I learned about the fate of my great-grandfather. Hands off the 'Memorial' and our memory!" Anna Kovalenko has stated. "I've signed [the petition] because it is very important to preserve the historical memory," Alina Tsepenko has written today.
*The organizations have been included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of non-commercial organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent.
