Teacher arrested for 25 days for picket in support of "Memorial"*

The Presnya District Court of Moscow has arrested Alexei Belenkin, a teacher of music, for 25 days, who unfolded the poster: "We are Memorial"* at the building of the Russian Supreme Court (SC). The court has received cases against three other activists.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 25, the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia  started an open hearing on the lawsuit on the liquidation of the “International Memorial”* filed by the General Prosecutor’s Office.

Alexei Belenkin came out for a picket in support of the "Memorial"* during the court session on the liquidation of the organization, his advocate, Denis Eliseev, has explained. Belenkin was found guilty of a repeated violation of the procedure for holding rallies or pickets (part 8, Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences (known as KoAP)), the "OVD-Info" has informed**.

Four other picketers in support of the "Memorial"* have been detained near the SC building. Two were left at the police station overnight pending the trial, the "OVD-Info" has added.

*The organization has been put by the Russian Ministry of Justice on the register of non-commercial organizations (NCOs) performing the functions of a foreign agent.
