Relatives of POWs demand meeting with Speaker of Armenian Parliament

The President (Speaker) of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia must personally explain his words about deserters, relatives of the prisoners of war (POWs) and missing servicemen demanded on the second day of their protest action.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 7, a protest action was launched in Yerevan, triggered by the words of Alen Simonyan, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament that many of the POWs are deserters. Relatives of the POWs and missing soldiers went out to the government building and blocked roads.

Today, the protest action has moved from the government building to the building of the National Assembly. Arsen Gukasyan, a relative of one of the missing soldiers, said that he spent the whole night in front of the parliament building.

The protesters demand from the Speaker, Alen Simonyan, to come to them and answer for his words about deserters. "The MPs from the ruling party, naturally, try to present everything in such a way that he allegedly meant something different. Let no one answer instead of him. He made the statement, so let him come and answer for that. I have a lot to tell him," the "News.am" has quoted Arsen Gukasyan as saying.
