Azerbaijani soldier perishes in border shootout

Asif Aliev, an Azerbaijani soldier was killed on the border of the Kelbadjar District with Armenia in a shootout with Armenian militaries, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed. The Armenian MoD has accused Azeri militaries of the shootout on the border.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 8, the Azerbaijani MoD announced that units of the Armenian Army had intensively shelled the Azerbaijani positions stationed in the Kelbadjar District. The Armenian MoD refuted this information and, in its turn, stated that the Armenian positions located on the south-western section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border were shelled from small firearms. A logistical support vehicle (water carrier) of one of military units came under fire, the MoD has claimed.

At night on December 8, Asif Aliev, a soldier, was killed on the Kelbadjar section of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, the press service of the Azerbaijani MoD has reported today.

According to the Azeri MoD, the soldier perished "as a result of yet another provocation committed by the Armenian Armed Forces."

Today, the Armenian MoD has stated that Azerbaijani militaries had opened fire on the combat positions of the Armenian Armed Forces located in the eastern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border late in the evening on December 8.

"The enemy's fire was suppressed by retaliatory actions. There were no victims from the Armenian party," says the publication on the MoD's website, translated by the "Caucasian Knot".
