Activists go on hunger strike in support of Salekh Rustamov

In solidarity with Salekh Rustamov, an Azerbaijani activist, who has switched over to a dry hunger strike in jail, his relatives and several activists refused eating.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 6, Salekh Rustamov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), went on a hunger strike in protest against the fact that he was not included into the amnesty list. Currently, Rustamov is injected with intravenous nutrients, but his death can occur at any time. On the 38th day of his hunger strike, Rustamov refused to drink water in the prison hospital, his advocate has informed.

After Salekh Rustamov switched over to a dry hunger strike, his close relatives came to the building of the Medical Institution (prison hospital) of the Penitentiary Service and announced that they were also going on a hunger strike in solidarity with Salekh.

"Salekh Rustamov has become a political prisoner; he sacrificed his freedom not for his family and relatives; he had suffered for solidarity with the champions of freedom," Ilkin Rustamzade, an activist, has stated.

Mamed Ibragim, a participant of the solidarity action, said that there are many those who want to join the hunger strike. "We'll fight to the end for the life and freedom of Rustamov," he has stated.
