Kadyrov awarded medal for protecting human rights after mass kidnappings in Chechnya
The Chechen Ombudsperson announced Ramzan Kadyrov and his parents to be honoured human rights defenders. The leader of Chechnya received a medal for protecting human rights amid the reports about mass kidnappings of relatives of the persons who criticized the authorities of the republic.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on December 25, Ramzan Kadyrov’s daughter Aishat Kadyrova, Minister of Culture of Chechnya, was awarded the medal “For the Protection of Human Rights”. On December 9, Chechen Minister of Press and Information Akhmed Dudaev was also awarded the medal “For the Protection of Human Rights”.
Akhmat Kadyrov was awarded posthumously “for courage and strength in protecting the rights of the Chechen people, selfless devotion to national traditions and Islamic values.” In turn, Ramzan Kadyrov was awarded “for his historical contribution to the protection of the rights of the Chechen people.”
Let us remind you that in July 2019, Ramzan Kadyrov criticized human rights organizations and declared himself to be a human rights defender.
The leader of Chechnya also voiced the version that “someone from those whom they (bloggers) insulted” might be involved in the recent kidnappings of the relatives of Chechen activists. According to human rights defenders and activists, the kidnapping of relatives of Chechen activists, well-known for criticizing the authorities of Chechnya, became possible because of Ramzan Kadyrov’s confidence that such actions would remain unpunished for him.
