Georgian citizen detained at border with South Ossetia

The authorities of Georgia demand to release a person detained on the border with South Ossetia, the Georgian State Security Service reports today. According to sources, the detained person is Lasha Khereteli, who earlier spent a year in a Tskhinvali prison for crossing the border illegally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 12, 2021, near the village of Zemo Nikozi on South-Ossetian border, Mamuka Chkhikvadze, a citizen of Georgia, was detained. On December 19, it became known that he had been placed in custody for two months. According to South-Ossetian authorities, Chkhikvadze had deliberately violated the border.

A Georgian citizen was detained in South Ossetia not far from Tskhinvali (the Ossetian name is Tskhinval), the Georgian “First Channel” reports today with reference to the Georgian State Security Service.

According to the State Security Service, it has activated a hotline and also reported about the incident to Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions, the “First Channel” reports.

According to the “Radio Tavisufleba”, the detainee is Lasha Khetereli, a forced migrant from the Liakhvi Gorge, who sometimes visits his relatives, living in South Ossetia, the Georgian newspaper “Sova” reports today.

Let us remind you that Lasha Khetereli had already been detained earlier by law enforcers of South Ossetia. In particular, on June 30, 2020, the man was detained in the vicinity of the village of Otreu and spent a year in a Tskhinvali prison for crossing the border illegally.
