Armenia sends 100 soldiers to Kazakhstan

The Armenian military forces will ensure the protection of facilities of strategic importance, the Ministry of Defence of Armenia reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the decision to send military personnel to Kazakhstan as part of the collective peacekeeping forces is approved by the Armenian government.

The “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by the press service for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia that 100 Armenian soldiers will take part in the peacekeeping mission in Kazakhstan.

“The mission of the Armenian military forces as part of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent is exclusively to protect facilities of strategic importance,” reported a spokesperson for the MoD of Armenia.

The Armenian MoD has not disclosed any other details yet.

On January 2, residents of the cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau in the Mangistau Region of Kazakhstan took to the streets en masse with an appeal to reduce fuel prices. Later, protests spread throughout Kazakhstan. The authorities announced a reduction in the price of liquefied gas in the Mangistau Region, but the situation did not stabilize. As of January 6, eighteen law enforcers were killed, and other 748 were injured. A state of emergency has been introduced on the territory of the country for two weeks, and the government is dismissed.
