Journalist Polad Aslanov achieves telephone conversation with his wife
The Azerbaijani journalist, Polad Aslanov, who is on hunger strike in colony, managed to get a phone call to his wife only after he cut his hand with a blade. According to Gyulmira Aslanova, her husband has lost weight, he has severe headaches, and his arms have become numb.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 6, Polad Aslanov, the editor-in-chief of the portals Xeberman.com and Press-az.com, went on a hunger strike. He demands a reconsideration of his case and protests against the protraction in the consideration of his complaint by the Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan. The colony staff has taken away cigarettes and bottled drinking water from Aslanov in order to force him to end his hunger strike, his wife has reported.
In November 2020, the court sentenced Aslanov to 16 years in prison under the case of high treason.
Aslanov's wife Gyulmira said that they managed to talk on telephone for only 10 minutes. "Polad intends to continue his hunger strike demanding to acquit him. He doesn't care, because living with the stigma of a 'homeland's traitor' while being innocent is a heavy burden," she has explained.
