Native of Dagestan apologizes for insulting bus passengers in Moscow

The native of Dagestan, who was detained for insulting passengers in a Moscow bus, has expressed regret about his words, as it follows from the video released today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 16 a video was posted, in which a native of Dagestan, by emphasizing his nationality, showered insults and obscene language on bus passengers in Moscow. After the incident, a criminal case was opened on inciting ethnic hatred; the police detained the suspect – a 29-year-old man. Earlier that day, the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, said that the native of Dagestan should apologize to both passengers and his fellow countrymen, on behalf of whom he was trying to speak.

Today, a video of the detainee's apology was posted, in particular, by the RIA "Novosti" on its Telegram channel. "The man who started the row in a Moscow bus has apologized," says the caption to the video.

The 11-second-long video clip was filmed indoors and features a young man speaking while looking into the camera. "There was a verbal conflict in the bus, where I was harsh in my statements towards the Russian nation, of which I sincerely regret," the man said.

Let us remind you that the practice of public apologies, which has spread in different regions of Russia in recent years, is most actively used in Chechnya, but has begun taking root in Dagestan. In particular, the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has repeatedly published videos on the Instagram with detainees' apologies for various offenses and misdemeanours.
