Eight Saakashvili’s supporters detained in Tbilisi

In Tbilisi, participants of a protest action demanding the release of former president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili tried to block the road and get a meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia. The police detained eight protesters for disobedience.

Mikhail Saakashvili, who went on a long hunger strike after returning to the country, is not allowed to be visited by a personal doctor, and that fact violates the rights of the arrested person, a politician’s advocate has told the “Caucasian Knot”. On February 21, Mikhail Saakashvili began an indefinite hunger strike demanding the proper medical treatment.

Today, the participants of the protest action in support of Mikhail Saakashvili and supporters of the “United National Movement” Party have demanded a meeting with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. The activists prepared posters, but the police did not let them meet the Prime Minister.

The supporters of Mikhail Saakashvili believe that the activists were detained without any reason. “We have come to remind the Prime Minister that he is killing Mikhail Saakashvili,” one of the protesters said.

Mikhail Saakashvili’s hunger strike will be a serious threat to his life, says Nika Meliya, the chair of the opposition “United National Movement” (UNM) Party.
