Georgian authorities refuse to support anti-Russian sanctions imposed by West

Georgia will not join the financial and economic sanctions of the West against Russia imposed in connection with the conflict in Ukraine, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announces amid the preparation by the European Union of the second package of sanctions against Russia.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 21, Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and on February 22, the Russian senate allowed troops to enter Donbass. The military operation was launched on the morning of February 24.

The UN Secretary General urged President Putin to stop the war, and Georgia condemned the aggression in eastern Ukraine. The European Union and the United States have imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia.

“Taking into account our national interests, Georgia is not going to take part in the sanctions, as this will only further harm our country and population,” Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated as quoted by the “News-Georgia”.
