Russian SC refuses to postpone liquidation of “International Memorial” *
The Supreme Court of Russia did not grant a request to suspend the liquidation of the “International Memorial” * (International Historical Educational Charitable and Human Rights Society “Memorial”) until the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) on the complaint about the law on foreign agents.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, the Supreme Court of Russia has started a hearing on the motion of the “International Memorial” *, which asked to suspend the liquidation until the decision of the ECtHR on the complaint about the law on foreign agents. Postponing the liquidation of the NGO until the decision of the ECtHR is the responsibility of the Russian court, the defence emphasizes.
On February 28, the Board of Appeal of the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia upheld the decision of the first instance court on the liquidation of the “International Memorial” *, and the court’s decision entered into force. The heads of the “International Memorial” * began the procedure for the liquidation of the NGO, but requested the Supreme Court to postpone the execution of the decision until the verdict of the ECtHR on the complaint about the law on foreign agents.
The court ruled not in favour of the “International Memorial” *, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial” * reported in its Telegram channel.
Let us remind you that on December 29, 2021, the Moscow City Court also ruled to liquidate the HRC “Memorial” *. On February 14, it was reported that the HRC filed an appeal against the decision of the Moscow City Court.
