Human rights defenders treat actions of French authorities in Daud Muradov’s case as criminal

The authorities of France expelled Chechen natives to Russia at the slightest suspicion, and the mass deportation was stopped only with the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, says Pascal Chaudot, the head of the “Chechen Committee” in France.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the death of Daud Muradov, who was deported to Russia from France, was reported by the Assembly of Chechens of Europe on February 8. The organization called on the authorities of France to protect the rights of migrants.

Daud Muradov was accused of promoting terrorism. According to the investigators’ version, he recruited Russian citizens into illegal armed formations (IAFs) operating in Northern Caucasus. In 2021, Daud Muradov was transported to Grozny, where he was subjected to torture. His body was not given out to relatives, reported the Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial”*.

Pascal Chaudot, the head of the “Chechen Committee” in France, called the situation with Daud Muradov “terrible and absolutely unacceptable.” According to Pascal Chaudot, most of the deported Chechens did not commit any grave offenses.

Oyub Titiev, an employee of the HRC “Memorial”*, called the transfer of Daud Muradov’s case to Russia unacceptable.

* The organization is included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in the register of NCOs performing the functions of a foreign agent.
