Volgograd activist detained at a picket
Today, activist Tamara Grodnikova has come out to a solo picket against the law on foreign agents. The activist has also demanded not to persecute people for holding public actions permitted by the law. The police detained Tamara Grodnikova after checking her ID.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Tamara Grodnikova repeatedly held solo pickets and voiced, among other things, the demands to stop pressure on independent media and release political prisoners. The activist also criticized the authorities. On April 6, Tamara Grodnikova went on a picket calling on the authorities to stop pressure on independent media and allow many-sided coverage of events in Ukraine.
Today, at 2:00 p.m. Moscow time, Tamara Grodnikova has come out on Alley of Heroes with the posters against the law on foreign agents and the restrictions on holding public actions. “The law on foreign agents is aimed at discrediting the freedom of expression of people’s own opinion and the freedom of dissemination of information. It is aimed at finally destroying independent media. The law opens the door to censorship and actually legitimizes it,” the activist told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
Half an hour later, two policemen approached the activist. One of them told her that she “distracted the police with her picket, as policemen must stand and protect the picketer from hooligans.” Five minutes later, the policeman invited Tamara Grodnikova to get into a police service car. The policemen who got out of the service car checked the activist’s ID and then escorted her to their car.
