Joint monitoring of water supply system conducted in South Ossetia

Today, a joint monitoring of the Edis-Tskhinval water supply system was conducted in South Ossetia. The "Caucasian Knot" has informed earlier that Tskhinval has to do without water for 9 days already.

The monitoring was conducted by Rayan Grist, manager of the economic rehabilitation programme of the OSCE Mission, Carl Stroble, engineer of the economic rehabilitation programme of the OSCE Mission, Sergey Zasseyev and Georgiy Kemuklidze, water supply engineers of the economic development programme of the OSCE Mission, Alan Kotaev, deputy administration head of the city of Tskhinval, Dmitri Dzhussoev, head of Tskhinval's city communal service, Koba Dvalashvili, head of the land reclamation and agriculture department of Kurta village, and Merab Kakhniashvili, senior specialist on land reclamation of Kurta village.

A protocol was signed on the outcomes of the monitoring, which specifies that in the area of Kheiti village the water pipeline was damaged, and a pipe break took place in the pipe flattening, from where plenty of water was leaking out.

In this connection, the participants of the monitoring group have specified in the protocol the necessity of the following: to promptly admit the working crew to the damage site (Kheiti village); to carry out capital repairs for bringing a reliable water supply line up to the city of Tskhinval; and to admit the working crew for elimination of voluntary taps-in in private gardens of the villages of Kemerti, Sveri and Dzartsemi.

The Kheiti village is controlled by the Georgian party. In spite of this fact, today the representative of Georgia Dmitri Sanakoev has accused the Ossetian party of damaging the water line.
