Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of a shelling attack near border

Today, the Armenian armed forces have shelled the positions of the Azerbaijani army in the Kelbadjar District, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reports. Armenia denies the accusation.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the MoD of Azerbaijan announced that on the night of May 18 and in the evening of May 17, the positions of the Azerbaijani army were subjected to an intensive shelling attack in the Kelbadjar District. The Ministry of Defence of Armenia denied the allegations.

This afternoon, from their positions near the village of Ashagy Shordja in the Basarkecher District (Vardenis District of the Gegarkunik Region of Armenia, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), units of the Armenian armed forces have shelled from small arms the positions of the Azerbaijani army deployed near the village of Yellidja in the Kelbadjar District, the Azerbaijani MoD reports.

“The units of our army have taken adequate response measures,” the MoD of Azerbaijan reports on its official website.

The Armenian Ministry of Defence denied the information, pointing out that “the situation on the border was relatively stable.”
