Deputy head of FSIN hospital in Rostov-on-Don suspected of involvement in torture

By a court ruling, Alexander Lyakh was placed under house arrest until July 7. The case against him is being considered under the article on abuse of power.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November 2020, after the death of a convict, who was undergoing treatment at the Rostov tuberculosis hospital of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN), a criminal case was initiated under the article on causing bodily harm resulting in death. According to the local Public Oversight Commission (POC), the convicts who were treated at the FSIN's Rostov tuberculosis hospital were kept tied to their beds for weeks, beaten up, poorly fed, and money was debited from their personal accounts.

The Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don has sent Alexander Lyakh, the former deputy head of the Interregional Tuberculosis Hospital No. 19 of the FSIN, under house arrest until July 7, the "DonDay" reported on May 26, citing the press service of the court.

Lyakh is suspected of abuse of power. According to investigators, he took part in the organization of the system of torture of prisoners who were treated at the hospital and gave orders to the head of the psychiatric department to rope patients.
