Armenian General Prosecutor’s Office: 16 people fell victim to law enforcers at protests

Unlawful actions of the Armenian police at opposition protests have become the basis for 25 criminal cases, in which 16 people are involved as victims. However, there are no suspects in those cases, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, the opposition has held a rally in front of the Armenian government building, and activists have tried to break into the building. The police reported about the detention of 111 people. Four persons are hospitalized, including two law enforcers. The police used excessive force during the detentions, protesters say.

Earlier, Ombudsperson Kristine Grigoryan has stated that the police act aggressively when detaining opposition supporters in Armenia and that some activists have got fractures. On May 18, Ishkhan Sagatelyan, the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament, said that the authorities allocated about 6.5 million US dollars for bonuses to the police for the work during the protests. The oppositionists demanded from the police chief to suspend the powers of the law enforcers involved in the violence against the protestors.
