Council of doctors criticize Saakashvili's treatment at clinic

Members of the alternative doctors' council who are monitoring the health condition of the third president of Georgia, Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, are studying the history of his illness and treatment. According to their initial assessment, Saakashvili's treatment cannot be treated as comprehensive.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 27, doctors pointed out that Saakashvili's health condition was deteriorating, after which the politician's supporters demanded to transfer him to a foreign clinic. Since May 6, Saakashvili's supporters have been holding protests. Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister, has treated the information about Saakashvili's grave condition as speculation.

Doctors from the alternative council have noted that Saakashvili's health is not improving, despite the three-week stay in the clinic.

"Some time earlier, the penitentiary service failed to make correct diagnoses ... The conducted treatment doesn't correspond to the diagnoses; therefore, there're no results," Mariam Djishkariani, the head of the NGO "Empathy" Centre for Psychological Rehabilitation of Torture Victims, has stated on air of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Company.

The doctors of the above council have agreed that Saakashvili's treatment is impossible in Georgia, because local doctors have no experience in treating people in this condition.

Let us remind you that Mikhail Saakashvili returned to Georgia in September 2021 and was arrested, as he had been sentenced in absentia in his homeland to imprisonment under two criminal cases. The politician has already held a 50-day-long hunger strike in protest against his arrest.
