Ombudsperson of Dagestan reacts to Gadjiev’s post about torture of his cellmate

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested journalist of the weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), posted a story of his cellmate about the torture he had been subjected to by law enforcers from Derbent. Ombudsperson of Dagestan Djamal Aliev requested the chief of the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) to verify the information.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the “Chernovik”, has been under arrest since June 18, 2019. He is accused of financing terrorism.

“Three years ago, when the news of my detention was discussed in the republic, three other detainees were brutally tortured at a torture base near Derbent ... Today, I want to tell you the story of one of them – Mirzali Mirzaliev,” Abdulmumin Gadjiev reported.

On June 15, 2019, a minibus driven by Mirzali Mirzaliev was stopped by law enforcers. They took the driver to a car without state registration plates, Abdulmumin Gadjiev reported. “When they approached a UAZ Patriot cat without state registration plates, Mirzali was abruptly pushed into the car. The law enforcers immediately twisted his hands behind his back and put plastic clamps on them. They pulled his T-shirt over his head from his back, stretched his arms up, and bent his face to the floor. While the car was driving, they were mocking, laughing, threatening, using bad words, and trying in every possible way to offend and humiliate Mirzali,” the Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s post says.

Mirzali Mirzaliev reported that later he was tortured with electric current, and his requests to stop the torture had no effect.
