Putin announces partial mobilization in Russia
Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on partial mobilization, instructing the heads of Russian regions to ensure the conscription of reserve servicemen for military service.
Today, the President of Russia has announced that he had signed a Decree "On announcement of partial mobilization in the Russian Federation," the "Interfax" reports. According to the decree, the Russian citizens called up for military service by the mobilization are awarded the status of contract military servicemen. The heads of Russian subjects (regions) are instructed to "ensure the conscription of citizens for military service for mobilization for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the numbers and within the timeline as defined by the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) for each constituent entity of the Russian Federation," the "Interfax" informs.
President Putin has explained that within the partial mobilization, only reserve servicemen are subject to conscription, primarily "those who had served in the ranks of the armed forces, have certain military specialties and relevant experience."
The Russian State Duma and the Federation Council will be officially informed about the start of mobilization today, and the "mobilization activities will begin on the same day (today)," the "Interfax" quotes the president as stating.
