Dagestani leader promises punishment for calls for mass coming to Derbent military registration and enlistment office
Today, men from Derbent have been called through loudspeakers to urgently appear at military registration and enlistment offices. Dagestani leader Sergey Melikov called the actions of the Derbent authorities the “utter” stupidity and promised to punish those responsible.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 25 and 26, in Makhachkala, the police severely dispersed participants of mass protest actions against the mobilization. According to human rights defenders, at least 250 people were detained. In Dagestan, young people unprepared for battles are being mobilized, Aina Gamzatova, a spouse of the republic’s Mufti, pointed out in her appeal to Vladimir Putin.
By September 28, about 30 criminal cases on the use of violence against public officers had been instituted in Makhachkala in connection with protest actions.
Residents of Derbent were called on to urgently come to the military registration and enlistment offices, follows from a video posted in the “True Dagestan” Telegram channel.
The fact that a service car of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) was driving around the city and inviting men to the military enlistment offices does not mean the mobilization of all men, says Telman Radjabov, the chief of the press service for the Derbent city administration. According to the official, the authorities resorted to such actions, since there were difficulties with finding some persons liable for military service at the places of their registration.
In his Telegram channel, the leader of Dagestan apologized to city residents for the actions of the authorities.
Telegram users also criticized the calls for Derbent residents to come en masse to the military registration and enlistment offices.
“Let the officials themselves go and draft their own relatives to the army, so they will overfulfill the plan of the mobilization,” user Digorka Z suggested.
