Dagestanis demand apology for fashion show in Makhachkala

The organizers of the fashion show in Makhachkala should apologize to Muslims of Dagestan, a group of Makhachkala townspeople has stated. The store, at the opening of which the fashion show was held with the participation of young men in effeminate images, should not exist, a Russian State Duma MP from Dagestan has stated.

Social networks have reacted violently to the video of the opening of a store in Makhachkala, where two young men in effeminate images took part in the fashion show. Commentators have noted that such events violate the foundations of the Dagestani society; they demand to punish the organizers of the show.

A group of residents of Dagestan has gathered in Makhachkala near the store in question to demand an apology from the organizers of the show, it follows from the video posted in the Telegram channel.

One of the men has noted that the aim of their visit was not to "scare anyone." "We, as decent adults, want to understand why this is happening in Dagestan," he said.

Sultan Khamzaev, a State Duma MP from Dagestan, has called to hold the organizers of the show accountable.

"This was a bestial and immoral party. It's disgusting that this happened in Makhachkala. Let such unfortunate outrageous guys thank us that we live in a state of law, otherwise they would have their heads unscrewed long ago," the MP Khamzaev wrote in his Instagram*.

He has prepared an appeal addressed to the prosecutor of Dagestan asking him to check the actions of the show organizers for LGBT propaganda, especially among the youth.

There are no laws in Dagestan and Chechnya that prohibit tourists from walking in shorts or transparent clothes; and local Adats do not apply to tourists. It is possible to eliminate the local residents' anger about non-compliance with the rules of conduct adopted in these republics by creating tourist zones, political analysts have suggested.
