Makhachkala Mayoralty explains delays in providing land to Novy Khushet residents

Residents of the Makhachkala dwelling settlement of Novy Khushet have been waiting for years to receive the land plots that had occurred in private ownership, locals have complained. Investigators are checking the legitimacy of land privatization; and the issuance of land plots has been temporarily suspended due to inventory thereof, the city Mayoralty has explained.

On November 14, a video was posted about a gathering of the settlement residents. They called for clearing the situation with the seizure of land by unknown people and solving the problem of allocating land plots to the residents, who cannot obtain them for several years. They also threatened to hold a large-scale protest should authorities fail to react to their demands.

In 2015, residents of Novy Khushet learned that the plots claimed by about 2000 people were put up for sale. Earlier, this land was in perpetual use of the state farm, but in 2006, it was returned to the municipality for non-payment of taxes; and in 2009, it was transferred to the state farm into ownership, and then sold out. Then this territory was divided into 1400 plots and began to be sold, the "Chernovik" weekly outlet reported.

A resident of the settlement named Sharip said that he had been in the waiting line for land for about 10 years, but received nothing yet.

Another local resident said he was put on the waiting list more than 10 years ago to get a land plot and build a house for his son, who is now 24 and is about to get married.
