Astrakhan resident fined for discrediting Russian militaries

A court in Astrakhan has fined Sergey Bataev, a local resident, by 35,000 roubles for discrediting the Russian Army.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 4, 2022, administrative responsibility for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces was introduced, after which residents of Russian regions, including those in Southern Russia, began to be prosecuted under this article. For example, on December 12, it became known that an administrative protocol had been drawn up against Sergey Rusanov.

According to law enforcers, Sergey Bataev from Astrakhan posted his pacifist comments in a social network that discredit the activities of the Russian Armed Forces.

Let us remind you that advocates have noted that the above article provides for the maximum punishment for citizens in the form of a fine of up to 50,000 roubles. The article is dangerous because its repeated violation within a year implies already criminal prosecution.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
