Dagestani villagers oppose construction on Chirkei Reservoir
After the construction of fish farms on the Chirkei Reservoir, the water will become undrinkable, residents of the village of Chirkei have shared their fears in a video appeal to residents and authorities of Dagestan, urging them to influence the situation.
On December 30, 2022, Shamil Khadulaev, a member of the Public Chamber of Dagestan, posted a video appeal of residents of the village of Akhatly to Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan. They complained to Mr Melikov that the areas attractive for tourism located near the Chirkei Reservoir are transferred into private ownership without their consent, while officials are inactive.
Khadulaev has posted another villagers' video appeal in his Telegram channel. "Now, villagers of Chirkei warn that the territory near the reservoir is not squandered for some needs," he has explained.
The water in the Chirkei Reservoir is drinkable, the authors of the appeal have noted, expressing fear that it would become unfit for drinking, "since the fish food is a mixture of many chemicals."
