Leyla Gireeva denied inquiry into domestic violence

In Ingushetia, the police have refused to open a criminal case against relatives of Leyla Gireeva on the girl's application about regular domestic violence against her, human rights defenders have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the 18-year-old Leyla Gireeva had asked to protect her from her relatives, who, according to her version, could cripple or kill her.

Leyla Gireeva was subjected to domestic violence in Nazran and the "expulsion of genies," which forced her to run away from home on November 14, 2022. After the escape, her relatives accused Leyla of committing a theft in order to put her on the wanted list.

The police refused to open a criminal case on Gireeva's application about domestic violence, the SK SOS Crisis Group has reported.

Earlier, Leyla's mother stated that her daughter was lying about the customs in the family, and suggested that the girl "was lured by some organization sponsored by America." Leyla made it under outsiders' influence, Khava Gireeva, her sister, has stated.

The accusations of committing a theft brought by relatives often fail to reach the court and fail to help in returning the runaway girls back into families, but in Gireeva's case, this may become an obstacle for the girl to go abroad, lawyers have noted.
