Authorities of Chechnya keep silent about details of Akhmat Kadyrov's wedding

By March 7, Chechen mass media and officials had revealed no details of the wedding of Akhmat Kadyrov, a 17-year-old son of the head of Chechnya. The wedding motor column consisted of 87 cars, mostly expensive foreign models; it follows from the video posted on the Internet.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ramzan Kadyrov had announced his son Akhmat's meeting with President Putin that took place on March 4, emphasizing that he himself was unaware about what the president talked to his son. Akhmat Kadyrov went to a meeting with Putin as the board chairman of the branch of the children's and youth's "Movement of the First", Ramzan Kadyrov explained and added that Putin had personally congratulated Akhmat Kadyrov on the upcoming marriage.

Putin's meeting with Kadyrov's son has underlined the special status of the head of Chechnya and looks like a signal that power in Chechnya will be inherited, human rights defenders believe.

Three days after the wedding of Ramzan Kadyrov's son, the state-owned mass media in Chechnya gave no details about how the wedding party went. The father's close associates have also refrained from sharing the wedding details in social networks.

Meanwhile, Magomed Daudov, when talking about the horse races on March 4, reported that the second race "was timed to the marriage of" Akhmat Kadyrov; and "the race was won by Akhmat's own horse named Homeland Bars," the Speaker wrote in the Instagram*.

A video of the wedding cortege was posted on the Instagram* by performer Timati. In the post, which was reposted by the "Sota" Telegram channel, the car with Akhmat Kadyrov is driving among the cortege, accompanied by police cars. "Ordinary Chechens were forbidden to take photos of the cortege," the caption says.

Earlier, Timati took part in promoting accounts of Kadyrov's family members in the Instagram*.

"Everything that Kadyrov does and writes is a shame and a violation of Chechen traditions: boasting and parading his children; public discussion of the marriage of his son; and open disregard for the subordination in son-and-father relationships," Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer, wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to Chechen Adats (customs), the groom's relatives cannot be congratulated on the marriage, Oyub Titiev, a human rights defender, has noted in his comment on the congratulations of Akhmat Kadyrov by the President of Russia.
