Fellow villagers of kidnapped Chechen Arsamikov prevent advocates from meeting him

Idris Arsamikov is in the Chechen village of Starogladovskaya; his advocates wanted to visit him, but his fellow villagers did not allow them to do so.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 16, the SK SOS Crisis Group reported that the 28-year-old Idris Arsamikov, who had returned from the Netherlands to Russia for his father's funeral, was detained at a Moscow airport and handed over to Chechen law enforcers. On March 23, the Group noted that Arsamikov gets in touch "and even sends photos." However, the messages posted on behalf of Arsamikov give no grounds to assert that he is alive, human rights defenders have pointed out.

Idris Arsamikov is alive, but the advocates who came to Chechnya were unable to meet him, the SK SOS Crisis Group reported in its Telegram channel. Arsamikov "is in de facto custody in his village."

The advocates' visit caused panic in the village where the Arsamikov family lives; locals clearly did not want human rights defenders to meet him, the "Sota" outlet has reported.

Let us remind you that in February, a video was posted in social networks, in which Arsamikov stated that he was at home in Chechnya and intended to go to the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. The video message was made under duress, the SK SOS Crisis Group then suggested.

Idris Arsamikov left Russia after in the summer of 2018 he was beaten up and subjected to electric shocks after detention. He returned to Chechnya in the spring of 2022, after which he was detained three times.
