Pensioner arrested in Volgodonsk for posting video with swastika
The Volgodonsk District Court has arrested Dmitry Lyagushkin, a pensioner, for seven days for posting a video about the celebration of the Victory Day, in which a swastika was shown.
The court found Lyagushkin guilty of displaying Nazi symbols, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reports.
According to the court ruling, the pensioner committed the offense on January 14, 2020, by reposting a video about the traditions of celebrating May 9 in Russia in his social network page. The video shows a sticker with Nazi symbols.
"Mr Lyagushkin refused to plead guilty, explaining that he did not know about the ban on posting a swastika; therefore, he refused to plead guilty. He didn't deny posting the video, but he didn't know what a swastika was and how it looked. Besides, he believes that he has the right openly express his opinion about the Russian president, whom he does not like and for whom he has never voted," the court's website reports.
The pensioner has appealed against the court ruling.
