Relatives of women convicted in Iraq achieve reaction of Dagestani Ombudsperson

The Ombudsperson of Dagestan has informed that a request was sent to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to provide legal assistance to the female natives of Dagestan kept in Iraqi prisons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 24, about 30 women-natives of Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia and Chechnya, convicted under terrorist articles, went on a hunger strike in a Baghdad prison, demanding a revision of their cases and return to Russia.

"Today I've met parents and other relatives of 58 Dagestani women convicted and serving their terms in Iraqi jails. Their relatives turned to me about the revise their verdicts and their return to Russia in order to further serve their sentences at home," Djamal Aliev, the Dagestani Ombudsperson, has written in his Telegram channel.

Let us remind you that back in June 2021, participants in a seminar in Moscow noted that the authorities recognize the need to return militants' wives and children from Syria, including natives of Northern Caucasus, but the issues of their rehabilitation and social adaptation still remain topical.
