Carnival in Gelendjik cancelled because of SMO in Ukraine
This year, there will be no carnival with a march and a gala concert in Gelendjik, the city Mayor has announced, explaining the decision by the fact that now "there is no time for broad festivities."
This year, in Krasnodar, local authorities decided not to hold a parade on the Victory Day for security reasons.
"Now, we live in such a time that there is no time for broad festivities. This year, there will be no carnival in the format familiar to our guests, with a march and a gala concert," Alexei Bogodistov, the Gelendjik Mayor, wrote in his Telegram channel.
At the same time, in 2022, the carnival in Gelendjik in honour of the opening of the resort season took place, despite the then ongoing special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. More than a thousand people took part in the carnival, including over 300 performers from other cities, the "Delovaya Gazeta.Yug" has reported.
The "Caucasian Knot" is running a list of those who perished during the Russia's SMO in Ukraine. Igor Khakhulin, a resident of the Tuapse District, became at least the 139th resident of the Krasnodar Territory, whose death during the SMO was reported by authorities. In total, by May 17, authorities and law enforcers had reported the deaths of at least 1940 residents of Southern Russia in Ukraine, including 1073 residents of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and 867 residents of the Southern Federal District (SFD).
