Natives of Dagestan convicted of terrorism complain of torture

Djamaludin and Tazhudin Tazhudinov, Khabib Gadjiev and Alimagomed Sheikhov, natives of the Kizilyurt District of Dagestan, were unreasonably found by the court guilty of organizing a terrorist community, as they testified under torture during the investigation, their defence has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 28, 2021, it became known that a military court in Rostov-on-Don had sentenced natives of Dagestan to long prison terms. According to investigators, they had been trained for terrorist activities. The Tazhudinovs and Sheikhov are also accused of plotting assassination attempts on law enforcers.

Their advocates have stated that the case had been falsified and that their clients had been tortured. The natives of Dagestan insist that during the investigation they gave confessions under torture; and during the trial they refused from these testimonies, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reports.

At the session of the Supreme Court (SC), the advocate for Gadjiev stated that his guilt was not proven, since the court unreasonably refused to interrogate the Turkish residents who would confirm that Gadjiev had not fought in Syria on militants' side.

  • Defence explains mitigation of sentence to KBR's lawyer Zhilokov

The Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has replaced imprisonment for a fine of 100,000 roubles imposed on Ratmir Zhilokov, an advocate convicted of assaulting a law enforcer; the mitigation is due to the fact that the criminal punishment had been applied with no due reason, Boris Zolotukhin, Ratmir's advocate, has stated.
