Gadjiev's colleagues note growing interest in his case
Residents of Dagestan are increasingly reacting to pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the solo picketers, Idris Yusupov and Magomed Magomedov, have noted. Believers and the progressive part of the population are interested in Gadjiev's case, Djambulat Gasanov, an activist, has added.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the arrested editor of the "Chernovik" outlet, treat his criminal case as political persecution and regularly hold pickets in his support in Makhachkala.
Journalists believe that Gadjiev suffers because the outlet had voiced "uncomfortable questions" to authorities and law enforcers.
Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik", said that during his picket, some 15-17 people expressed their support with words and gestures.
Idris Yusupov, another solo picketer, who is a journalist of the "Novoye Delo" outlet, has also positively assessed citizens' reaction to the pickets.
Djambulat Gasanov, an activist, came to support Gadjiev's colleagues. In his opinion, in Dagestan, two categories of people are interested in Gadjiev's criminal case – a certain part of Muslims and the progressive part of the republic's population.
"The world is arranged in such a way that 80% of earthlings are ordinary people. Their interests are focused mainly in personal consumption and, at most, the family interests. But progress is driven by the remaining 10-20%, and it is they who, probably, are mostly interested in Gadjiev's case. At least in Dagestan," Mr Gasanov has explained.
