Chechen authorities accuse Western intelligence services of attacking Milashina

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has promised to look into the attack on journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov. At the same time, Akhmed Dudaev, the Chechen Press Minister, said that "the style of Western intelligence services" can be traced in the attack.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 4, in Chechnya, Elena Milashina, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta" outlet, and Alexander Nemov, an advocate for Zarema Musaeva, were attacked. They were beaten up by masked gunmen while in a taxi on the way from the airport to Grozny, where the verdict in the case of Zarema Musaeva was to be announced.

"I instructed the competent services to make every effort to identify the attackers," Kadyrov wrote on his Telegram channel.

Akhmed Dudaev, the Chechen Press Minister, has called the incident "unacceptable." "It cannot be ruled out that the attack customers pursued the goal of discrediting our country before the NATO summit in Vilnius," he said in his Telegram channel.

The attack was carefully planned and prepared, a "Caucasian Knot" reader named Dudaev has noted. "The attackers knew the landing time of the aircraft with Milashina and Nemov," he has noted, adding that Milashina "had insulted tens of thousands of our fighters for many years." Dudaev also mentioned "numerous insults to the entire Chechen people," which, in his opinion, Milashina had committed.
